Clarence David Bishop

Dec. 7, 1921 - Oct. 5, 2021

Date of Service: Oct. 19, 2021

BURLEY – Clarence David Bishop “CD”, a 99-year-old resident of Burley passed away at his home on Tuesday, October 5, 2021.

Clarence was born December 7, 1921, in the small town of Sheldon, Missouri, to Hugh Clarence Bishop and Florene Lillian Dees Bishop. When CD was young the family moved to Jerome, Idaho, where he grew up helping on the family farm. In his high school years he was a leader on the baseball team and team captain for the football team each year. He was a tough kid and enjoyed multiple sports and was the Idaho state champion Golden Glove boxer in his weight class for three years in a row.

He served our country in the U.S. Navy as an armed gunner on a battleship during WWII in the Atlantic & Pacific Oceans. He was a proud veteran! He worked in the community as CD Bishop Well Drilling Co. for many years and drilled lots of wells for farmers in southern Idaho that are still producing water for farmers today.

In his later years he owned a local pub called Top Cat, and after it was sold, he became a State of Idaho potato inspector. He inspected potatoes at local processing plants in Heyburn and Burley until his mid 80s. He loved his family and friends and was an avid football fan. Gardening was another passion of his; he loved to grow a garden and always shared the high yield produced with everyone each year.

He was always ready to enjoy a good cup of coffee and wanted everyone to eat a good meal! He lived a long, healthy life and outlived many of his friends and was the last survivor of his siblings. He touched the hearts of many and will be forever missed.

He was married several times in his almost 100 years of life and was married to his last wife, Dale Thompson, for more than 20 years.

The family wishes to extend our sincerest appreciation to the doctors and nurses for their care of him over the past many years, as well as a special thanks to the amazing care at Intermountain Homecare and Hospice for their care and support.

CD is survived by his children, Greg Bishop of Burley, Carla (Rod) Haag of Heyburn, and John (Lisa) Bishop of Battle Ground, Washington; 5 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dale Thompson; and son, Rodney Bishop.

A private family graveside will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 19, at Gem Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the Mini-Cassia Veterans Group.
